The Clayton campus is Monash University's biggest campus. 20km south-east of Melbourne, it is a large residential community, well known for the highest number of science and technology institutions in Victoria. The STRIP Building (The Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct) was completed by Cockram Construction and houses university and corporate enterprises that are developing novel products from leading edge technologies.
The Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct project consists of two four-storey rectangular buildings totalling 17,000m2, joined by a central circulation core. It is on this central core that Colt installed an external solar shading system over each floor. The Ellisse ellipsoid louvres automatically track the suns position as it moves over the building to provide the most effective solar shading protection possible. The Ellisse fins are controlled with the Colt PIA control system. PIA is a mullion-integrated actuation system that can be integrated into many of Colts louvre systems, thus hiding any unsightly actuators and linkages from view.
