Reece, Burwood

Reece is one of Australia‘s leading supplier of bathroom and plumbing products with its Head Office based in Burwood, Victoria.

Using the Colt Sunpath solar shading software, Colt recently designed and installed a fixed horizontal solar shading louvre on the North Facing facade using Colt Schermo.

Fixed horizontal solar shading louvre Colt Schermo Shading glass reduces unwanted heat gain

Shading the north façade will greatly reduce summer temperatures within the offices, improve internal comfort levels and ultimately will save energy. Direct sunlight onto glazing generates approximately 1kW of heat per m2 (the same heat as a single bar radiator). Solar Shading can block up to 90% of this heat when the system has been designed correctly. Shading glass reduces unwanted heat gain. Radiant heat passes through glass and is absorbed by building elements and furnishings, which is then re-radiated. Re-radiated heat has a different wavelength and cannot pass back out through the glass as easily. In most climates, 'trapping' radiant heat is desirable for winter heating but must be avoided in summer.
