Yanget House, Bunbury, WA

The unusual façade of the new building designed by Australian architect Gresley Abas presented a unique challenge for the Colt design team: supply and install a visually striking perforated aluminium screen designed by artist Rick Verney. The dynamic, textured facade provides sun shading for the east facing properties and produces an ever-changing interplay of light and shadow. Each panel is bent and installed at an angle but in perfect elevation the perforated pattern runs along the façade. Making sure the pattern worked as designed required extensive design work on the part of the Colt team and very careful installation!

The building, which is now completed, is a 4 storey mixed use building on the site of the existing Yanget House transient hostel in Bunbury, Western Australia. The street frontage houses a retail tenancy and commercial entry, with 2 levels of office space above. The transient hostel occupies the rear of the building, which provides a quieter and more private environment for the tenants.
